 Whipser Vineyards boutique tasting room
Situated next to Borella’s Farm Stand across the street from its vines, the Whisper Vineyards tasting room looks like a small boutique/cafe. There’s table service at this tasting room. Although there is a small bar in the boutique the entire room is set up with tables and the tasting comes to you.

We each chose the Steel Tasting which consisted of a Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Starling Rose and Reisling. My accompanying tasters were interested in substituting some of the wines in the flight for other wines but substitutions are not allowed.

The Pinot Gris was crispy and light with afternotes of fruit, then we tried the Sauvignon Blanc, which had a steel aftertaste. The Starling Rose had a hint of strawberry but it was warm and we opted not to wait for our server to return to the table (they only come back when your glass is empty), returning the glasses to the bar for the final tasting of Reisling, which was light, slightly sweet with a taste of honey, although it had no legs, so this certainly was not a dessert wine.

The Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc were our favorites at this winery.

At the end of the tasting the server brought a small complimentary bowl of salty snacks, perhaps to encourage more drinking after the flight. Good sales tactic! We obliged. There was live music and the singer took requests. It definitely felt more like a boutique bar than your typical east end winery, but then again, Whisper is located on the north shore mainland Long Island.

It was brutally hot the day we ventured to Whisper, so like most patrons, we opted for the indoor air-conditioned tasting. Be forewarned: The single restroom, however, was located outdoors and not air-conditioned.
